Who we are.

We are a mix of concerned citizens, conservation non-profits, for-profit businesses, municipal leaders, enthusiastic outdoors people and shy naturalists who began to meet regularly in July of 2009. While our backgrounds vary, we share a common goal: to safeguard the natural treasure that is the Upper Perkiomen Valley. To see who has participated in the meetings see Alliance Partners.

What we do.

We gather, talk, contemplate, research, and look to the future. We share what we’ve learned and pool our talents. We rally teamwork for conservation projects that can heal a scarred landscape or preserve a pristine one. We share knowledge gained through literature, hands-on training, and a basic exchange of information – all in an effort to keep the Valley’s natural ecosystem intact and healthy.

Why we do it.

The Upper Perkiomen Valley is a filled with natural areas critical to maintaining the health of the entire Southeastern Pennsylvania region, but all will be put at risk without a focused conservation effort. Many have identified our area as a conservation priority and Southeastern Pennsylvania’s GreenSpace Alliance — the initiative’s primary leader — knows coalitions can get more done than any one group on its own.

Important bird areas, pristine waters, and large woodland landscapes are just three examples of what makes our area important. The primary goals of this alliance are defined in our Conservation Vision (see right sidebar).

Where we are.

This Alliance focuses on the land and water resources within the Upper Perkiomen Watershed which flows through portions of Montgomery, Lehigh, Bucks, and Berks Counties. The unique geology of the area creates dramatic landscapes and natural habitats.
